Mine the Magic of a Coaching Deep Dive

Why Going Deep Changes Everything

I love a Deep Dive.

And no, I’m not talking about a perfectly executed dive into the deep end of a swimming pool (although I do love that too). I’m talking about the kind of deep dive that happens when you commit to extended, focused coaching time with a wise, experienced human being.

I was reminded of just how powerful this experience can be during a recent coaching deep dive with my business coach of more than two decades, Mark LeBlanc, CSP, CPAE.

The Power of a Long-Term Coaching Relationship

Mark and I have worked together in a wide variety of coaching formats ever since I attended his game-changing Achiever’s Circle Weekend back in the mid-2000s, when I was transitioning from professional performer to professional speaker, coach, and trainer.

Simply put: my business would not be where it is today — healthy, thriving, and deeply impactful — without his guidance.

Calling Mark “my coach” doesn’t quite capture the relationship. He is a mentor, trusted advisor, and beloved friend. Over the years, beyond coaching sessions, our lives have intertwined in meaningful ways. My husband Jim and I have shared countless meals, conversations, laughs, and travel adventures with Mark and his wife Ann — the kind of shared experiences that become treasured memories you carry forward as life unfolds.

Why This Deep Dive Was Different

That history is exactly why it felt so right to fly to Minnesota for a recent four-day visit. The primary focus was a business coaching deep dive — a full day of coaching, split across two days — designed to create space for big thinking and meaningful decisions.

It was also, admittedly, a bonus that Jim finally got to meet Mark and Ann’s tiny Yorkies, Bella and Gia. Watching my brilliant business coach melt into an unapologetic puddle of puppy-dad goo was worth the trip all by itself.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been navigating a significant business rebrand and pivot over the past six months. The shift has been deep, intentional, and transformative — and Mark and I both knew this moment required more than a quick hourly coaching session here and there.

It required a Deep Dive.

And I can say this with complete certainty: had I not committed to that deep dive, I would not have uncovered the clarity, confidence, and golden nuggets of wisdom I walked away with.

Why Coaching Deep Dives Are Game-Changers

This experience only reaffirmed what I already believe to be true: coaching deep dives are magical.

That’s why I often offer my own clients the option of a three-hour coaching deep dive or a full day-long experience, especially when we’re working on something substantial — like developing a signature keynote or refining a powerful message.

My presentation coaching clients will often travel to Detroit to work with me in a heads-down, uninterrupted way. (Well… interrupted only by snacks, bathroom breaks, meals, and, if we span two days, sleep.)

Deep dives give you something shorter sessions simply can’t:

  • Space to think linearly
  • Time to finish what matters
  • Freedom to explore ideas that could become true game-changers

One such idea that emerged from my own deep dive is my Imagine Your Last Lecture coaching offering — a concept I’ll be fully embracing in 2026.
