Charisma isn’t a one-time performance—it’s a lifelong practice. Charismatic presence for speakers.
If you’re striving to become a compelling communicator, you already know that delivering a standout presentation takes work. But the real magic lies in sustaining your presence and evolving your skills long after the applause fades.

Today marks the launch of my third book, Charismatic Presence: 5 Principles For Magnetic Presentations. To celebrate, I’m sharing an exclusive excerpt from Chapter 8, “Moving Toward Mastery,” where I offer nine powerful ways to help you maintain your presence and presentation excellence over time.
Whether you’re leading meetings, delivering keynotes, or simply aiming to show up with more impact, these strategies will keep your spark lit and your skills sharp.
1. Ask Yourself These Four Post-Presentation Questions for Charismatic Presence for Speakers
After every speaking engagement, reflect using this framework:
- Did I solve my intention?
- What went better than expected?
- What didn’t go as well as I’d hoped?
- What could I do differently next time?
Then act on that last answer to grow with each experience.
2. Take Care of Your Voice, Body & Mind
Your voice and body are your presentation tools. Keep them tuned:
- Warm up with tongue twisters or vocal exercises.
- Protect your voice—use a mic for longer talks.
- Move daily: yoga, walking, strength training.
- Care for your mental health—journal, meditate, or get support.
3. Train in Improvisation
Improvisation sharpens your presence under pressure. Try a class with Second City, Groundlings, or programs like Choose Improve. Learn to “dance with your butterflies.”
4. Speak Often
Say yes to speaking opportunities—even informal ones. Every rep helps you refine your rhythm, confidence, and clarity.
5. Embrace Discomfort
Push beyond your comfort zone:
- Stand to present if you usually sit.
- Speak to larger audiences.
- Volunteer to go first—or last.
Each stretch builds new skills.
6. Work With a Coach
A speaking coach helps you level up faster by refining your habits, polishing your delivery, and boosting your confidence.
7. Learn to Speak Extemporaneously
Scripted talks can feel stiff. Try this method instead:
- Draft your full script.
- Create an outline with key phrases.
- Rehearse using just the outline.
- Gradually reduce it to a few bullet points.
You’ll stay on message and sound natural.
8. Study the Masters
Watch top communicators at TED.com. Analyze their poise, passion, and clarity. Start with Dr. Brené Brown’s iconic talk on vulnerability.
9. Record and Review Your Talks
Yes, it’s awkward—but watching yourself is the fastest way to grow. Record live presentations and rehearsals. Notice what works and what needs tweaking.
These nine tips are just a sample of the tools I explore in Charismatic Presence. Ready to dive deeper?
